SCENE
[INT. TRENCH - DAWN]
Artillery shells shatter the ground outside. Rain mixes with mud as chlorine gas rolls low over the wire.
"Sir! The generals said we'd be home by Christmas! They said this was a noble crusade!"
(Looking at his pocket watch, hollow-eyed) "There is no nobility here, Julian. Only machines designed to slaughter men faster than we can bury them. Industrialized death."
Arthur puts the whistle to his lips.
